About the Role: We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Farm Manager to oversee the daily operations of a crop farm in The County of Grande Prairie, Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of crop production, ensuring efficient farm operations, and optimizing yield while maintaining sustainability and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement crop production plans, including seeding, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and harvesting.
- Oversee soil preparation, planting schedules, and crop rotation strategies to maximize yield and sustainability.
- Manage farm employees, assign tasks, and ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Operate and maintain farm equipment, ensuring proper servicing and repairs.
- Monitor crop health and address potential issues such as disease, pests, and adverse weather conditions.
- Maintain accurate records of farm activities, inputs, yields, and financial expenditures.
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal agricultural regulations and safety standards.
- Manage farm budgets, control costs, and make data-driven decisions to enhance profitability.
- Collaborate with agronomists, suppliers, and buyers to optimize production and market opportunities.
- Implement sustainable farming practices to improve long-term productivity and soil health.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Crop Science, Agronomy, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in crop farm management or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of crop production, soil health, and pest management.
- Experience operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment.
- Familiarity with precision agriculture technology and modern farming techniques.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work long hours during peak seasons and adapt to changing weather conditions.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license; Class 1 or 3 license is an asset.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive salary based on experience, typically ranging from $65,000 to $130,000 per year.
