The Inuit Broadcasting Corporation is Nunavut’s public television service, mandated to preserve and promote the Inuit language, culture, and well-being in the Territory.
Under the supervision of the Financial Director, the Accounting Assistant is responsible for the general maintenance of accounting records.
Role Description
This is a contract Accounting Assistant role for the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation located in downtown Ottawa; with a possibility of extension to a permanent full-time position. The Accounting Assistant will be responsible for daily tasks such as
Financial Administration
- Verify all invoices before payment and ensure the timely payment of accounts payable, including preparing cheques for signature and mailout.
- Input invoices into the accounting software, coding expenditures to appropriate accounts and projects;
- Prepare and code invoices to customers and ensure timely collection of unpaid receivables;
- Prepare and code bank deposits promptly;
- Assist IBC staff in other centres;
- Maintain department filing system;
- Maintain Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable;
- Reconcile Credit Cards and Bank Accounts.
- Ensure contractual guidelines are met before Invoicing or payments are made
- Identify areas of concern and offer improvement suggestions
- Strong data processing and research skills
- Submit pension contribution.
General Administration
- Audit Preparation: Assist auditors and the Finance Director
- Ensure the safe retention and storage of historical accounting and legal records.
Payroll
- Bi-weekly, reconcile and enter timesheet data into the online payroll site.
- Calculate statutory pay when required.
- Ensure accuracy in paystubs regarding benefits, pensions, allowances, etc.
- Prepare T4S at calendar year-end.
- Liaise with Dayforce Powerpay as required.
- Keep records of attendance in Bamboo HR
Knowledge:
- Familiar with the terms and requirements of funding programs supporting IBC
- Knowledgeable in the critical areas of basic bookkeeping
- An understanding of Nunavut’s social, cultural and political environment
- General knowledge about the stages of production funding and the accounting principles and approaches commonly used in the broadcasting industry;
Skills:

- Fluency in Inuktitut would be an asset

Qualifications
- Experience in Accounting, Finance, and Bookkeeping
- Proficiency in Sage 50
- Ability to create Financial Statements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience in the broadcasting industry is a plus
- Minimum of three years of full-time experience in a financial position.
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Non-profit experience will be a big plus.
- Experience in accounting project allocation preferred.
This is an on-site role. We are located in downtown Ottawa; no parking is provided. Working hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; full-time position. Must be legally authorized to work in Canada (no sponsorship provided).
This is a three-month contract with a possibility of extension to a full-time permanent position.
