Reporting to the Manager within the AMH Supportive Housing program, the Occupational Therapist is a member of a multi-disciplinary mental health outreach team. The team is comprised of Nursing, Social Work, Outreach Workers, Psychiatry, and General Medicine. This team functions to provide treatment, rehabilitation, support services and case management functions for clients with a severe and persistent mental illness. The Occupational Therapist is an assertive, proactive individual with a strong foundation in the area of mental health services, and possesses the ability to interact in a wide range of challenging circumstances. Team members collaborate with the client, family, and other programs and agencies to provide quality, client-driven, culturally appropriate, and integrated services. Each team member works independently with clients but there is also shared responsibilities amongst the team for duties such as running group therapy programs and coverage for other team members as needed. Please Note: This position is an outreach position and involves visiting clients in their home and also transporting clients in your personal vehicle.
As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Active registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists.2-3 years adult mental health clinical experience within the past 5 years. Experience working with individuals with a severe and persistent mental illness. Knowledge of the Continuum of Care of Addiction and Mental Health services in the Calgary Zone. Knowledge of Mental Health Legislation especially related to CTO's. Knowledge of and ability to provide Mental Health Recovery Focused Care. Experience in completing Occupational Therapy Functional Assessments. Alberta Aid to Daily Living (AADL) authorization. Experience in conducting psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, and crisis intervention. Experience working in partnership with non-AHS and non-profit community agencies. Knowledge of Housing Resources in Calgary Zone. Self-motivated with proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated responsible decision-making through the application of knowledge, critical thinking and sound legal and ethical judgment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in demanding and dynamic conditions. Excellent organizational, problem-solving and time management skills. Knowledge and adherence to RA policies, procedures and code of conduct. Experience with MS Office Suite, Outlook, Connect Care and Netcare.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in an outreach position and comfort providing client care in the community. Group therapy experience.
