Job Overview
Hemme Custom is seeking an experienced Sewing Machine Operator - Home Decor to join our growing team. This is a unique hybrid position, combining in-studio collaboration with the flexibility of working from your own home sewing studio.
The successful candidate has the flexibility to work approximately 1-2 days per week in our North York studio, with the remaining work completed independently from home. Candidates must have a well-equipped home sewing studio, including a large cutting table and adequate space to store fabrics, linings, and works-in-progress.
We specialize in high-quality custom soft furnishings for residential and commercial interiors and are looking for someone who takes pride in exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Sew custom decorative pillows, bench cushions, box cushions, and outdoor cushions.
- Fabricate simple drapery panels and other custom sewn soft furnishings as required.
- Read work orders and fabricate products to detailed specifications.
- Cut fabrics, linings, and other materials accurately and efficiently.
- Ensure all finished products meet Hemme's quality standards.
- Maintain an organized and efficient work area, both in-studio and at your home workspace.
- Communicate regularly with the Hemme team regarding project status and scheduling.
- Assist with fabric organization, material preparation, and inventory tracking while working in the studio.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years experience sewing custom soft furnishings, cushions, upholstery, or home décor products. Drapery experience would be considered a plus!
- Strong experience using industrial sewing machines.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Ability to interpret work orders and produce accurate, professionally finished products.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
Home Studio Requirements
- Dedicated home sewing workspace (pet free space).
- Large cutting table suitable for handling upholstery and drapery fabrics.
- Adequate storage space for customer fabrics, linings, and partially completed projects.
- Reliable transportation to and from our North York studio.
