We are seeking a detail-oriented, skilled Technical Designer / CAD Technician to join our production team in Thornhill/Terrace, BC. If you have a passion for design precision and want to see your technical drawings come to life in beautiful custom cabinetry, we want to hear from you!
Job Description & Key Responsibilities
As a Technical Designer / CAD Technician, you will bridge the gap between initial design concepts, mechanical engineering, and advanced automated shop production. You will be responsible for creating highly accurate production drawings, handling advanced mechanical layout design, and preparing files for automated manufacturing equipment.
- Generate detailed shop drawings, elevations, 3D renderings, and assembly blueprints for custom cabinetry and millwork.
- Apply mechanical design principles to ensure structural integrity, hardware optimization, and seamless moving part integration in custom builds.
- Program, configure, and output production-ready design files for advanced machinery including CNC machines, laser cutters, and 3D printing equipment.
- Manage and utilize specialized CNC, laser processing, and 3D printing software to bridge the gap between digital models and physical manufacturing.
- Translate designer sketches, architectural blueprints, and site measurements into precise technical specifications.
- Create accurate material take-offs and cut lists for our manufacturing team to ensure zero-waste and efficient production.
- Collaborate closely with production managers, cabinet makers, and installers to ensure design intent and tolerances are met.
- Revise and update drawings based on site changes, client feedback, or manufacturing constraints.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 1+ years of experience in drafting in applicable fields, specifically within the cabinetry, millwork, or wood manufacturing industry (preferred).
- Technical & Mechanical Skills: Strong understanding of mechanical design, cabinet construction methods, hardware integration, materials, and automated manufacturing processes.
- Equipment & Software Knowledge: * Proficiency in industry-standard cabinetry/design software (e.g., Mozaik, SketchUp, Fusion 360Cabinet Vision, or AutoCAD).
- Direct hands-on familiarity or training with CNC machining, laser cutting, and 3D printing software/hardware operations is highly asset-backed.
- Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, strong spatial awareness, and solid mathematical skills.
- Communication: Excellent teamwork and communication skills to effectively collaborate with the shop floor operators and builders.
- Location: Must be reliable and able to commute to or work out of our Thornhill, BC facility.
