About the Role
Milron Metal Fabricators is looking for a highly capable Mechanical Designer / Design Technologist to join our Engineering and Design team in Edmonton.
This is a production-facing design role focused on SolidWorks, formed sheet metal, fabricated assemblies, production drawings, BOM accuracy, design-for-manufacturing, and product development support.
We are looking for someone with exceptional SolidWorks ability and strong practical understanding of how formed sheet metal parts are cut, formed, welded, assembled, and released to production. The right candidate will be comfortable working directly with Engineering, Production, Fabrication, Purchasing, and the shop floor to solve real manufacturing problems.
Key Responsibilities
· Create and update SolidWorks parts, assemblies, multibody models, sheet metal models, weldments, and production drawings.
· Design formed sheet metal components with proper bend strategy, flat patterns, forming logic, reliefs, clearances, and manufacturability.
· Prepare accurate manufacturing drawings for laser cutting, forming, welding, assembly, and hardware installation.
· Support Engineering Change Requests, drawing corrections, shop-floor feedback, and production issue resolution.
· Improve existing products with a strong design-for-manufacturing mindset.
· Support BOM accuracy, part descriptions, weights, and ERP-ready Engineering data.
· Work with Production and Fabrication to resolve design-related build issues.
· Support prototype-to-production handoff for new or improved designs.
· Maintain drawing and model discipline within an existing CAD/product structure.
· Communicate blockers, risks, and required decisions clearly and early.

· Ability to create clean, practical, production-ready drawings.
· Experience with fabricated metal products, welded structures, or production manufacturing.
· Ability to understand shop-floor feedback and convert it into clear Engineering action.
· Strong attention to detail with drawings, BOMs, part information, and revision control.
· Ability to work with both legacy designs and new product development.
· Strong communication skills and willingness to work directly with the shop floor.
Preferred Qualifications
· CSWP certification preferred.
· Experience with SolidWorks PDM Professional preferred.
· 3+ years of mechanical design experience in product design and manufacturing environment.
· Experience with aluminum fabrication, truck bodies, trailers, service bodies, equipment, enclosures, or similar sheet metal fabricated products.
· Advanced SolidWorks sheet metal experience, including configurations, multibody modelling, flat patterns, formed parts, weldments, and large assemblies.
· ERP experience, such as Epicor Kinetic, Odoo, or similar systems.
· Experience supporting BOMs, part numbers, weights, routing data, or CAD-to-ERP workflows.
