1.0 Job Title: Yard Technician
2.0 Work Location: Thermo King Western (Calgary) Inc.

4.0 Reports To: Fixed Operations Manager
5.0 Hours of Employment: Monday to Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm
6.0 Position Summary:
The Yard Technician position assists with the day-to-day maintenance and housekeeping of the facility and Thermo King Calgary uptimes, vehicles and equipment.
Opportunities exist to quality individuals for apprenticeships in Transport Trailer Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Technician and Transport Refrigeration Technician.
7.0 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
7.1 Housekeeping / Snow Removal
· Responsible for general shop and yard cleanliness and organization
· Dispose of garbage on a nightly basis, ensure garbage is picked up in the yard anD shop.
· Sweep and pressure wash shop floors on a regular basis.
· Operation of Skid Steer for yard snow removal on a regular basis as required.
7.2 Shop Maintenance
· Perform general building repairs and maintenance as required.
· Assist outside vendors as required.
7.3 Vehicle Maintenance
· Perform general repairs and maintenance on Thermo King uptimes and vehicles as required.
· Maintain vehicle cleanliness as required.
· Assist in the delivery and pick up of Thermo King uptimes and vehicles when they are scheduled with outside vendors for repairs etc.
7.4 Equipment and Tool Maintenance
· Perform general repairs and maintenance on Thermo King equipment such as forklift, skid steer, shunt truck and Polaris.
· Perform general repairs and maintenance on Thermo King tools as required.
7.5 Shipping and Receiving
· Unloading of sales units or large deliveries with forklift using loading ramp.
7.6 Safety Program Inspections
· Perform daily and monthly inspections as required for Thermo King facilities, equipment and tools.
· Address any concerns with the above with Management to ensure deficiencies are corrected.
7.7 Technician Assistance where Required
· Assemble and prepare new units and associated components in preparation for installation by a technician.
· Assist with unpacking new units and garbage disposal.
· Assist with any tasks required by a technician.
7.8 Parts Assistance where Required
· Assist parts department with deliveries and pick-ups as required.
· Assist parts department with large shipments
8.0 Health and Safety Duties and Responsibilities:
· Become thoroughly familiar with the company Health and Safety program.
· Actively participate in Health and Safety program development and maintenance.
· Follow Health and Safety standards and standard operating procedures set out by Thermo King Western (Calgary) Inc. and Alberta OH&S legislative requirements, including harassment and violence.
· Refuse to perform dangerous work when unhealthy or unsafe conditions exist (as defined by Alberta OH&S legislation), and refusing to perform work they are not competent to perform.
· Report all identified or potential hazards to their supervisors.
· Immediately report to their supervisors all accidents, incidents, injuries, near misses and related illnesses.
· Participating in all safety training offered by the employer at or away from the work place.
· Use all personal protective equipment (PPE) as per their training.
· Check tools and equipment, including PPE, for hazards or defects before using them and replacing/repairing if necessary.
· Know the location, type and operation of any emergency equipment.
9.0 Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
· Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of up to 40 pounds etc.)
· Good hand-eye coordination
· Familiarity with power tools and machinery is a plus
· Communication and teamwork skills
· Commitment to safety rules
· Apprenticeship or specialization is an asset, but not necessary
10.0 Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, climb, reach
· Ability to lift
· Ability to grasp hand tools.
