The Toxicology Lab Technician I supports the analytical testing of nicotine, tobacco, cannabis, hemp-derived, and other consumer products to identify and quantify toxicants, contaminants, and related compounds. This role performs sample preparation, analytical testing, instrument operation, and data review activities in support of laboratory operations and client testing requirements.
The Toxicology Lab Technician I works within a fast-paced, regulated laboratory environment and is responsible for following validated methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality systems to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant results. This position supports the laboratory's commitment to safety, quality, operational excellence, and customer service in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.

- Prepare and analyze samples from tobacco, nicotine, cannabis, hemp-derived, and related consumer products for toxicological testing and compound quantification.
- Perform sample preparation techniques including extractions, dilutions, derivatizations, and reagent preparation following validated methods and SOPs.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation including LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-MS, and related laboratory systems.
- Perform routine instrument calibrations, quality control checks, system suitability testing, and verification procedures to ensure data accuracy and instrument performance.
- Accurately document, review, and maintain laboratory records and analytical data within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in compliance with data integrity standards.
- Support method validation, verification, optimization, and implementation of new analytical procedures as assigned.
- Monitor sample workflows and support timely completion of testing to meet laboratory turnaround time commitments.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety and quality requirements.
- Manage inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, standards, and consumables to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.
- Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives to support ISO/IEC 17025 and GLP compliance.
- Collaborate effectively with laboratory staff, supervisors, and cross-functional teams to support operational goals and customer expectations.
- Follow all laboratory safety procedures, chemical hygiene practices, PPE requirements, and hazardous waste disposal protocols.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Toxicology, Analytical Chemistry, or related scientific discipline required.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- One to three years of laboratory experience in toxicology, analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical, cannabis, tobacco, nicotine, environmental, or regulated testing laboratory environments preferred.
- Hands-on experience with chromatographic and mass spectrometric instrumentation including GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, HPLC, and ICP-MS preferred.
- Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025, GLP, GMP, or equivalent regulated quality systems preferred.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and laboratory documentation practices preferred.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and technical skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate documentation and ensure data integrity.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
