Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Construction Accountant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be a key support role within the accounting team, ensures accurate job cost accounting, budgeting, billing and reporting in compliance with accounting standards, contracts, and internal policies. You’ll work closely with project managers, field teams, vendors, and senior finance leaders to monitor project performance financially and support decision-making.
Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Project Cost Management
- Prepare and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cost estimates.
- Track and monitor project costs including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
- Perform job cost accounting and allocate costs appropriately to each project.
- Monitor variances between actual costs and budget, analyze trends, and advise project teams.
Billing, Invoicing & Cash Flow
- Prepare progress billings/invoices and progress draw packages for clients.
- Review and process subcontractor invoices, supplier payments, retainage and holdback releases.
- Support accounts receivable and accounts payable related to projects.
- Ensure compliance with the Prompt Payment Act deadlines on Project contracts.
- Monitor project cash flow and assist with forecasting.
Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare regular financial reports, WIP (Work in Progress) reports, and cost summaries for management.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities including accruals and reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate project documentation for audits and financial reviews.
- Any other related duties and Adhoc reports that may be assigned by the controller from time to time.
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Project Managers, site personnel, procurement, and corporate finance.
- Communicate financial performance and potential issues to stakeholders in a clear, accurate manner.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) an asset
- Minimum 4 years of account experience
- Knowledge of the construction industry is considered an asset
- Knowledge of Yardi, accounting software is considered an asset
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail, and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast paced environment

Pay: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
