EIC Shared Services provides finance and accounting services to several subsidiaries within EIC’s Aviation segment including Calm Air International, Perimeter Aviation, Keewatin Air and Custom Helicopters, among others. Our group consists of approximately 70 people, and we are looking to add another motivated professional to join our team.
Role Description
The Assistant Controller position reports to a Controller of EIC Shared Services and works directly with the Director of Finance of EIC Shared Services and EIC subsidiaries’ VP of Finance. The responsibilities of the Assistant Controller role include overseeing a team of general ledger accountants and accounts receivable personnel; the completion of month end reporting for specific assigned companies; ensuring adherence to IFRS accounting standards; supporting budget and forecast processes; ensuring internal controls are maintained; implementing process improvements and working as a part of the management team to create a positive, productive work environment.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Leading an accounting team including planning the distribution of work, review of daily tasks and training and mentoring team members. Doing performance reviews annually.
- Preparing and reviewing monthly and quarterly financial statements, accurately and within reporting deadlines
- Overseeing the submission of all tax filings and communicating with tax authorities
- Providing information support, data analysis and metric reporting as requested by subsidiaries’ management team and EIC head office
- Co-ordinating with internal and external auditors – both financial reporting and taxation
- Providing support to EIC Shared Services’ Office Manager who oversees the Accounts Payable team, as required
- Developing and maintaining documentation of Standard Operating Procedures
- Performing research on accounting standards to contribute to decisions regarding application of accounting policies
- Consolidation of certain financial statements and individual company metric reporting
- Working on special projects including system implementations and integrations
- Other duties as assigned
Hours of Work & Location:
- Full Time – Monday to Friday
- Additional working hours may be required to furnish business needs, including but not limited to month end, quarter end, and year end processes.

Qualifications:
- Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA program at an intermediate level is preferred
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as an Assistant Controller or a comparable role
- Experience supervising a team
- Demonstrated success in meeting tight deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills when analyzing financial data
- Willingness to share ideas, find solutions and improvements and support others to be successful
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Able to build strong, trusting relationships with stakeholders, financial management and fellow team members
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Experience with Great Plains Accounting system is an asset
- Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills
