Company Overview
GEL is a privately owned environmental utility platform based in Ontario that delivers decentralized water and wastewater infrastructure through a fully integrated model. From permitting and construction to long-term operation, GEL maintains single-operator responsibility — designing, building, and operating micro utility systems that enable development beyond municipal service limits.
GEL's Micro Utility Systems division provides on-site water supply and wastewater treatment infrastructure for residential, mixed-use, and community developments. These systems allow projects to proceed without reliance on centralized sewer and water networks, removing one of the most common barriers to development across Ontario.

Role Summary
We are looking for a driven and relationship-oriented Business Development Manager to lead sales efforts for GEL's Micro Utility Systems division. In this role, you will identify and pursue opportunities with land developers, home builders, planning consultants, and municipal stakeholders across Ontario — positioning GEL's decentralized wastewater and water infrastructure as the solution that unlocks development where municipal servicing is limited, delayed, or unavailable.
This is a high-impact, revenue-generating role at the intersection of infrastructure, real estate development, and environmental services. You will own the sales pipeline from prospecting through to signed agreements.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and manage a pipeline of development projects across Ontario that require decentralized water and/or wastewater infrastructure to proceed.
- Identify and engage land developers, home builders, master-planned community developers, planning consultants, engineers, and municipal officials who are facing servicing constraints.
- Lead consultative sales conversations that position GEL's micro utility model as a turnkey solution — covering permitting, system deployment, and long-term private utility operation.
- Develop and nurture relationships with key accounts, industry partners, and referral networks within the Ontario development community.
- Attend and represent GEL at industry events, conferences, trade shows, and municipal planning sessions.
- Collaborate with internal teams including corporate development, engineering partners, and operations to scope projects, develop proposals, and support project feasibility assessments.
- Track and report on pipeline activity, forecasts, and market intelligence using CRM tools.
- Monitor market trends including municipal servicing constraints, housing policy changes, zoning and planning developments, and infrastructure funding programs that create opportunities for decentralized solutions.
- Support proposal development including RFP responses, partnership agreements, and project-specific presentations for developer and municipal audiences.
QualificationsRequired
- 3+ years of business development, sales, or account management experience, ideally in infrastructure, utilities, environmental services, land development, or construction.
- Demonstrated track record of closing complex, consultative, B2B sales with long sales cycles.
- Strong understanding of Ontario's land development process, including planning approvals, site servicing, and the role of water/wastewater infrastructure in enabling development.
- Excellent relationship-building skills with the ability to engage C-suite decision-makers, developers, engineers, and municipal stakeholders.
- Self-starter who thrives in a field-based role with the autonomy to manage territory and pipeline independently.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout Ontario, including Northern Ontario.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver compelling presentations and proposals.
Preferred
- Experience in the water/wastewater, environmental, or utility sector.
- Existing relationships with Ontario land developers, home builders, or planning consultants.
- Familiarity with Ontario's Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) process and Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) requirements.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or Northern Ontario development projects.
- Knowledge of decentralized or on-site wastewater treatment systems.
- CRM proficiency (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar).
What We Offer
- Competitive base salary plus performance-based commission/bonus structure.
- Opportunity to play a foundational role in scaling a high-growth infrastructure platform.
- Autonomy and ownership over a defined market with strong demand tailwinds (housing supply constraints, municipal servicing gaps, and Ontario's growth targets).
- Collaborative team culture with experienced leadership in water infrastructure, environmental services, and utility operations.
- Professional development support and industry event participation.
- Vehicle allowance or company vehicle for field travel.
- Benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage.
Why This Role Matters
Ontario is facing a housing supply crisis, and one of the biggest barriers to building is a lack of water and wastewater servicing. Municipalities are at capacity. Expansion timelines stretch for years. Developments stall. GEL's micro utility model removes that bottleneck — and this role is about bringing that solution to the developers and builders who need it most.
If you're excited about selling a product that directly unlocks housing development and community growth across Ontario, we want to hear from you.
