Group Benefits Renewal Specialist
Position Overview
The Group Benefits Renewal Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end renewal process for a book of group benefits policies. This role owns renewal tracking, carrier negotiations, experience analysis, and the preparation of renewal presentation packages for advisors, while also supporting mid-term claims experience reporting. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple renewal timelines and build clear, client-ready materials.
Key Responsibilities
Renewal Management
Own the full renewal lifecycle — from tracking upcoming renewals and initiating carrier requests, through analyzing proposals and negotiating rates, to delivering finalized renewal packages to advisors.
Financial & Risk Analysis
Review carrier proposals and experience data (TLR, demographics, pooled claims) to assess renewal risk and identify negotiation opportunities, benchmarking results against industry data.
Plan Design & Marketing Support
Price plan amendments for cost containment or enhancements, and collaborate with RTQ/Marketing teams when policies require re-marketing.
Mid-Term Claims Reporting
Pull and analyze mid-term claims experience data, and prepare and distribute claims experience presentations to advisors.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and PowerPoint) and SharePoint
- Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) to support research, analysis, or document preparation
- Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting insurance/claims data (TLR, demographics, pooled claims)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for advisor-facing materials
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple renewal timelines simultaneously
- Experience in group benefits, insurance, or a related financial services field preferred
Suggested Hiring Criteria / Interview Focus Areas
- Prior experience with group benefits renewals or underwriting analysis
- Comfort working with TLR, pooled claims, and demographic data sets
- Excel proficiency (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis) and PowerPoint deck-building skills
- Familiarity with AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) for streamlining analysis, drafting, and reporting workflows
- Experience managing deadline-driven, multi-client workflows
- Communication skills for advisor- and client-facing deliverables
Pay: $30.00-$38.00 per hour
