The primary purpose of this position is to develop, implement, and monitor individualized behavioural intervention for preschoolers and Kindergarten children with a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The position will also provide coaching and training of Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) to Autism Assistants and will also provide on-site coaching to families, pre-school and kindergarten staff. The specialist will provide leadership to facilitate the application of evidence-based practices for children with ASD. Close collaboration with other professionals is essential to develop comprehensive educational programs.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Directing teaching with caseload children;
- Completing curriculum assessments;
- Designing developmentally sequenced goals and objectives;
- Writing and regularly updating individual plans;
- Training and supporting team members (e.g., family and Autism Assistant) in intervention techniques;
- Collaborating with other professionals regarding the selection of goals and problem solving;
- Facilitating transitions into early childhood centres and schools;
- Participating in individual or group training sessions;
- Facilitating functional behavioural assessments;
- Adapting and modifying programming/curriculum; and
- Other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Child Development, Education, Psychology or a related field;
- Extensive training in Applied Behaviour Analysis;
- Experience working with preschoolers with Autism and knowledge of child development;
- Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered;
- Demonstrated ability to manage time, organize work responsibilities, work independently and as a team member;
- Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with the public, including both oral and written skills;
- Excellent computer skills, including email, word processing and presentation applications;
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle; extensive travel in the province is required;
- Must have a good previous attendance and work record and a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector check prior to beginning employment.
Other Qualifications:
- Board Certification in Behaviour Analysis is preferred.
- Knowledge of Analysis of Verbal Behaviour, Practical Functional Assessment / Skill-Based Treatment, Assent-Based Learning, Augmentative and Alternative Communication, and knowledge of effective evidence-based practices for children with ASD are preferred.
- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
