Manufacturing Assistant
Petrospec Engineering is currently seeking a Manufacturing Assistant to join our Manufacturing team. This role is responsible for assisting in the assembly and manufacturing of custom downhole instrumentation strings used for reservoir monitoring.
The ideal candidate is energetic, mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and enjoys working as part of a team. You are comfortable using hand and power tools, operating equipment, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Reporting to the Manufacturing Coordinator, you will work with a crew of 2–4 people at our Edmonton manufacturing facility, assembling custom downhole reservoir monitoring strings for customers around the world. This position is local, allowing you to be home every evening. Manufacturing shifts are typically 12 hours, with occasional 8-hour shop days depending on operational requirements.
This role works closely with several divisions within Petrospec and plays an important part in delivering high-quality products to our customers. Safety and quality are fundamental to everything we do. As this is a safety-sensitive position, a satisfactory driver’s abstract and participation in our Drug & Alcohol testing program are required.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a consistent commitment to safe work practices and Petrospec’s Health, Safety, and Quality standards.
- Assist in the assembly and manufacturing of downhole instrumentation strings.
- Maintain inventory levels of equipment, tools, materials, and consumables at the manufacturing facility.
- Participate in job preparation, equipment mobilization, and project setup.
- Complete pre- and post-trip inspections of company vehicles and equipment, maintain driver logbooks, and participate in preventative maintenance programs.
- Participate in manufacturing facility safety meetings, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide constructive feedback and recommendations to the Manufacturing Coordinator to improve processes and efficiency.
- Learn and apply technical knowledge related to downhole instrumentation, manufacturing processes, and associated technologies.
- Safely operate equipment including forklifts and skid steers (training provided if required).
- Operate company vehicles and transport equipment and materials throughout the Edmonton area.
- Perform general duties including housekeeping, shipping and receiving, material handling, and pick-up/delivery of parts and equipment.
- Comply with all applicable Health & Safety legislation, quality standards, company policies, and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a satisfactory driver’s abstract (required).
- Experience towing trailers is considered an asset; training is available for the right candidate.
- Class 3 Driver’s Licence is considered an asset.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting 30–50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and climbing on and off trucks and trailers.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.
- Experience with hydraulic and/or electrical systems is an asset.
- Ability to read basic schematics and perform mathematical calculations is an asset.
- Willingness to work a Monday–Friday schedule with occasional weekend work as required.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, as this position is primarily performed outdoors.
- Pre-employment Drug & Alcohol testing is required. Additional testing may include post-incident, reasonable cause, and random testing.
- Valid Standard First Aid certification is considered an asset.
Compensation
Starting compensation: $67,000–$80,000 per year
