Job Summary:
The Accounting Technician will support the accounting team by preparing corporate year end files, tax returns, and various financial reports. This role is designed for individuals with a keen interest in accounting offering hands-on experience with corporate and personal tax preparation. The position is ideal for those interested in a dynamic role that supports both personal development and professional growth within the accounting field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Year-End Financial Preparation: Assist in the preparation of year-end financial statements, including compilation and review engagements.
- Tax Return Preparation: Complete corporate and personal tax returns with accuracy and compliance, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Accounting Software Use: Use accounting software (e.g., CaseWare, Sage, QuickBooks, Tax Cycle) for data entry, financial tracking, and reporting.
- Client Support: Communicate with clients to gather information and resolve accounting-related questions.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Preferred candidate would have post-secondary education or experience in accounting, finance or related field. Would be willing to train the right candidate who exemplifies the remaining qualifications.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with accounting software (CaseWare, Sage, QuickBooks) and tax preparation software (Profile, Tax Cycle).
- Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eye for detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective client and team interactions.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and knowledge of paperless office systems (e.g., Doc-it) is a plus.
- Flexibility: Willingness to adjust schedule to meet deadlines, with occasional overtime as required.
