The Rockyview General Hospital Emergency Department Orthopedic Tech (RGH ED Ortho Tech) demonstrates excellence with interpersonal communication skills as well as with written documentation. They are reliable, motivated, self-directed, and able to work in a stressful, dynamic environment. The RGH ED Ortho Tech possesses knowledge unique to the orthopedic patient and performs a variety of highly specialized skills with supervision for this population, and practices as a full scope LPN within the boundaries of the Emergency Department expectations. They demonstrate strong assessment skills, is able to critically think through a situation and prioritizes care based on these factors. The RGH ED Ortho Tech practices within the Patient and Family Centered Care model; is sensitive to the needs of patients and families.
Description:
As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents). You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum one year full-time equivalent scope LPN experience in required. Registered Orthopedic Technologist certification required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current Calgary Zone Emergency ROT position preferred, other Emergency/UC nursing experience will be considered.
