The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aerospace engineering principles, non-conformance evaluation, and cross-functional technical support, with the ability to work within customer and regulatory requirements to ensure compliant and efficient product disposition.
As a Liaison Engineering Specialist, you will be responsible for evaluating and dispositioning non-conforming product, supporting MRB activities, providing technical guidance to production and inspection teams, and assisting with the development of special process and personnel certification programs. This role requires a proactive and technically skilled individual who can apply sound engineering judgment, interpret complex specifications, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze Discrepant Material Reports (DMRs) and determine appropriate dispositions, including repair, rework, use-as-is, or scrap, in accordance with engineering principles, product specifications, process requirements, and delegated authority limits.
- Participate in MRB activities by presenting technical evaluations and recommendations and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve non-conformance issues.
- Prepare DMRs and proposed repairs for customer submission where required.
- Support the pursuit and responsible use of customer-delegated repair authority.
- Provide technical guidance to production and inspection teams on disposition instructions and interpretation of engineering requirements.
- Identify equipment, process, and personnel certification requirements based on customer and regulatory expectations.
- Develop and maintain in-house training content for certification programs required by customers or regulatory bodies.
- Ensure training materials meet applicable specifications and compliance standards.
- Support certification-related programs such as Rockwell hardness and conductivity inspections, clad checks on scratched aluminum details, copper-sulfate testing of passivated stainless parts, and surface preparation for electrical bonding.
- Identify opportunities to reduce non-conformance rates, improve disposition turnaround times, and increase process efficiency.
- Participate in Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support capital investment opportunities and participate in CapEx projects through completion.
- Assist with audits, supplier technical reviews, and engineering change implementation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field.
- Equivalent combinations of education and extensive aerospace quality experience may be considered in lieu of formal academic qualifications.
- Strong understanding of aerospace engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Working familiarity with AS9100, AS9145, ARP9136, and aerospace customer requirements.
- Ability to interpret complex drawings, engineering specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with non-conformance review, MRB processes, and repair dispositioning is considered a strong asset.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis and structured problem-solving techniques.
- Strong computer skills, including ERP systems, MRB software, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ideal Candidate:
- Engineering Judgment: You are confident evaluating non-conforming product and making sound technical decisions within defined authority and compliance requirements.
- Aerospace Knowledge: You understand aerospace materials, manufacturing methods, engineering documentation, and the importance of meeting customer and regulatory expectations.
- Detail-Oriented: You can review complex specifications and technical data carefully while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Collaborative: You work effectively with quality, production, inspection, customers, and other departments to resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Continuous Improvement Mindset: You actively look for ways to improve turnaround times, reduce defects, and strengthen internal processes.
- Training & Compliance Focused: You are comfortable supporting certification programs and developing compliant technical training materials.
- Safety Conscious: You follow all workplace safety procedures and support a safe, compliant, and productive work environment.
