Position Summary:
Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation (FCMN) is seeking one (1) community engagement coordinator to coordinate and assist with members’ needs. This role blends community outreach, support, and hands‑on logistical coordination to ensure that all engagement activities are accessible, culturally respectful, and aligned with the values and aspirations of the Nation.
Position Title: Community Engagement Coordinator
Location: Fort Chipewyan FCMN Office
Work Duration: One year contract
Responsibilities:
1) Community Engagement & Support:
· Act as a liaison between FCMN and Metis members, particularly youth and elders
· Arranges for and schedules transportation as needed for Elders to attend appointments, meetings, errands, and other services as needed
· Conduct interviews, surveys, and informal conversations to capture community perspectives
· Promote awareness of the on-going projects and events, including distribute flyers and promotional materials throughout the community
· Identify emerging issues, opportunities, and community priorities
· Completes and/or arranges for completion of general, seasonal cleaning or housework for Elder’s homes
· Can respond quickly and calmly to emergency requests
· Plan and coordinate youth and elders’ events with program coordinators
· Develop and coordinate truth-reconciliation workshops and activities with Chief of Staff
· Organize and oversee cultural and ceremonial events and educational initiatives to share the history of residential schools
2) Focus Group Logistics & Coordination
· Assist with Oosita’s Grassroots Tourism study
· Promote awareness of the tourism project, feasibility study and upcoming focus group sessions
· Identify emerging issues, opportunities, and community priorities
· Ensure respectful, culturally appropriate communication at all times
· Arrange day labours to: Distribute flyers, posters, and promotional materials throughout the community
· Make arrangements or provide pick up and drop off transportation for Elders attending focus group sessions
· Call or message participants with reminders about session schedules
· Manage all logistics for three focus group sessions
· Arrange boardroom and ensure facilities meet the needs of the study
· Oversee board room setup before each session, including seating and materials
· Assist in restoring the boardroom to its original condition after each session
· Support the project team with additional outreach or logistical tasks as needed
· Ensure all activities align with cultural values and community expectations
Qualifications & Skills:
· Solid experience in Microsoft Office products, including Word, excel etc
· Professional, proven customer service, strong interpersonal, organizational skills.
· Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
· Valid driver’s licence and ability to transport Elders
· Respect for Métis culture, traditions, and community protocols
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Experience in community outreach, event coordination, or marketing is an asset
· Previous experience supporting Elders or community events is an asset
