We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Project Manager to lead the planning, execution, and successful startup of mechanical systems and industrial equipment associated with OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) manufacturing facilities. This role is responsible for coordinating commissioning activities across mechanical, process, utilities, and production systems to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant startup of manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with heavy industrial equipment, steel or pipe manufacturing processes, contractor management, and commissioning/startup execution within fast-paced industrial environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject & Commissioning Management
- Lead all mechanical commissioning and startup activities for OCTG manufacturing equipment and supporting plant systems.
- Develop and manage commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, checklists, and turnover documentation.
- Coordinate commissioning activities with engineering, construction, operations, maintenance, OEM vendors, and contractors.
- Ensure equipment installation and mechanical completion align with project specifications and operational requirements.
- Drive commissioning readiness reviews, punch-list management, and startup sequencing.
Equipment & Systems Oversight
Manage commissioning activities for equipment such as:
- Pipe mills and finishing lines
- Heat treatment furnaces
- Threading machines
- Hydrostatic testing systems
- Straightening and inspection systems
- Conveyors and material handling systems
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Cooling water, compressed air, and utility systems
- Cranes and heavy lifting equipment
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout commissioning and startup phases.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Lead lockout/tagout (LOTO), risk assessments, and commissioning safety reviews.
- Verify systems meet applicable industry standards, codes, and quality requirements.
Startup & Performance Verification
- Oversee functional testing, loop checks, dry/wet commissioning, and performance testing.
- Coordinate troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical and operational issues during startup.
- Validate equipment performance against design specifications and production requirements.
- Support operator training and handover to operations teams.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain commissioning documentation, test records, and turnover packages.
- Provide regular project status updates to management and stakeholders.
- Track commissioning progress, risks, schedule impacts, and corrective actions.
- Support development of SOPs, maintenance procedures, and reliability documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in industrial commissioning, startup, or project management roles.
- Experience with OCTG, steel manufacturing, pipe mills, or heavy industrial processing facilities strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial utilities.
- Proven ability to manage contractors, OEMs, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with commissioning software, CMMS systems, and project scheduling tools.
- Strong understanding of OSHA safety standards and industrial commissioning best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, GA drawings, and technical specifications.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP certification or equivalent project management training.
- Experience with API standards relevant to OCTG manufacturing.
- Familiarity with automation systems, PLC integration, and controls commissioning.
- Prior experience supporting greenfield or brownfield industrial projects.
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
Work Environment
- Industrial manufacturing and construction environment.
- Frequent field presence required during installation and startup phases.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or rotating schedules during critical commissioning periods.
- Travel may be required to vendor sites, fabrication shops, or project locations.

Pay: $75,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
