Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field (CPA preferred), with 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit operations and financial management.
Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, governance, Board relations, budget management, and leading multidisciplinary teams, supported by exceptional analytical and communication skills.
**Applicants with experience in Christian education, nonprofit leadership, and educational organizations, expertise in facilities and transportation management, capital projects, fundraising, grant administration, and knowledge of Alberta nonprofit legislation and education funding will be given preference.
Knowledge & Skills - Strong expertise in financial planning, budgeting, governance, policy development, risk management, contract negotiation, project and facilities management, strategic planning, and organizational change. Proficient in financial management systems and Microsoft Office, with demonstrated leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Position Summary
The Director of Operations is a senior leadership position responsible for the operational, financial, and administrative management of the Society. Working closely with the Executive Director, the Director of Operations provides strategic leadership to ensure the organization's resources, facilities, finances, and operational systems effectively support the Society's mission of providing Christ-centered education.
This role oversees financial stewardship, budgeting, capital projects, facilities management, transportation services, fundraising administration, grant development, and organizational policies and procedures. The Director ofOperations also serves as a key liaison with the partnering School Division, contractors, government agencies, and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate is a mature Christian, who demonstrates a strong faith, actively serves in a local church, and models servant leadership in all aspects of their work.
Responsibilities
Financial Leadership- Provide strategic oversight of all financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, forecasting, audit, compliance, risk management, and long-term financial sustainability, while serving as a trusted financial advisor to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Governance & Board Administration - Provide leadership in organizational governance by developing and implementing policies, ensuring compliance with legislation and Board directives, supporting Board reporting and committees, and recommending operational and governance best practices.
Operations Management - Provide strategic leadership and oversight of facilities, capital planning, transportation, vendor and contract management, insurance, risk management, and organizational assets to support the Society's long-term operational sustainability alongside the Director of Maintenance.
Capital Projects - Provide strategic oversight of capital projects, ensuring effective planning, budget management, stakeholder coordination, and successful project delivery
Transportation Services - Oversee the Society's transportation program, including service contracts, budgeting, vendor management, safety compliance, and continuous service improvement.
Fundraising & Development Operations- Provide strategic operational and financial support for fundraising initiatives, ensuring accountability, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with the Development team to achieve organizational goals.
Grant Development - Provide strategic leadership for grant funding by securing new funding opportunities, overseeing grant administration and compliance, and fostering relationships with government, foundation, and community partners.
Partnership with School Division - Serve as the Society's primary operational liaison with the partnering School Division, fostering collaborative relationships and coordinating operational, financial, and facility initiatives while ensuring compliance with partnership agreements.
Strategic Leadership – Work collaboratively with the Executive Director, as a member of the senior leadership team, by driving strategic planning, organizational improvement, operational excellence, performance measurement, and change management.
Working Relationships - The Director of Operations works closely with: the Executive Director, the Board of Directors and Leadership team, the School Division leadership and School Principals, the Finance Department, the Maintenance and Facilities personnel, Transportation providers, Fundraising and Development staff
Government agencies, External auditors, and Community partners
