HOUSEKEEPER/COOK
Reduced Full-Time Position
Starting Rate $24.82/hr
Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Retreat Ministries (or designate), this position combines housekeeping duties with food preparation responsibilities. This position requires schedule flexibility and a commitment to creating a welcoming, well‑maintained environment to support the Centre’s mission. The ideal candidate is reliable, attentive to detail, comfortable with both housekeeping and kitchen duties, and able to work in a collaborative, values‑based setting.
In this role, the housekeeper maintains a clean, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout the retreat centre, ensuring that guests experience a clean and comfortable space. Working within established guidelines, the housekeeper is responsible for beds, cleaning rooms, floors, and common areas, as well as completing laundry duties such as washing, drying, and organizing linens. The position also involves safely moving materials or equipment when needed and following all required procedures to uphold cleanliness, safety, and the overall peaceful atmosphere of the retreat setting. Assistance with outdoor work at the Villa is a necessity.
As cook, the incumbent will work both independently and alongside the Villa Cook to support daily meal preparation for guests and visitors. Responsibilities include shopping, ordering, dishwashing, menu planning, preparing and cooking meals, baking, and serving food and beverages in a timely and hospitable manner. The cook also ensures that all food preparation, storage, and serving areas remain clean, organized, and safe, following proper food‑handling practices and contributing to a positive dining experience.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 education or a satisfactory combination of education, training, experience, or abilities in a related field.
- Experience with housekeeping, with retreat or residential building work preferred.
- Experience cooking, baking and pastry, with commercial or institutional experience preferred.
- Physically capable of performing all duties as required and operate equipment in a safe and competent manner.
- Must be able to communicate in English as to be understood effectively by another individual.
- Ability to work in a team environment with strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to accomplish all responsibilities with little supervision.
Work Environment: Our Retreat Centres are peaceful, with natural spaces that support healing and reflection. Weekend and flexible availability is required and is dependent on retreat programming schedules. For all staff, physical involvement in setting up events and general hospitality is part of our hands-on approach.
