Days/Hours of Work: 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday with some evening and weekend events (as lieu time)

Barrie Food Bank provides food relief at no cost to individuals and families in our community who are in need and supports them on their journey towards well-being. We currently support over 7,500 individuals a month who need food support.
Barrie Food Bank is experiencing significant growth in the number of community members seeking food support. To continue to meet the growing demand, the Food Bank is seeking a Manager, Volunteer & Community Programs to lead and strengthen our volunteer workforce while overseeing community-based food security programs and partnerships.
Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for the recruitment, engagement, development, and recognition of more than 175 volunteers who are essential to the delivery of Barrie Food Bank's mission. The role also provides leadership for external community programs including our Student Nutrition Program (School Fuel), Little Pantries, After the Bell, community partnerships, and other outreach programs that extend Barrie Food Bank's impact beyond our walls.
The Manager, Volunteer & Community Programs serves as the organization's lead advocate for volunteer engagement and community partnerships, ensuring volunteers feel valued, supported, and connected while helping expand food security supports throughout the community.
Volunteer Leadership & Engagement
· Lead all aspects of volunteer recruitment, screening, onboarding, orientation, scheduling, training, engagement, recognition, and retention.
· Maintain a positive, inclusive, and welcoming volunteer culture aligned with Barrie Food Bank's values.
· Ensure appropriate volunteer staffing levels to support organizational operations.
· Works with appropriate staff to ensure volunteers are given proper training to be safe and successful in their roles.
· Manage volunteer shift scheduling within our Volunteer Management System (ShiftNote) to ensure adequate volunteer coverage for all shifts.
· Develop and implement volunteer recognition and appreciation initiatives, including the annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, volunteer spotlights, our annual Christmas Card and other engagement efforts.
· Plan, coordinate and co-facilitate two annual Volunteer Town Hall meetings to communicate organizational updates, gather feedback and strengthen volunteer engagement.
· Conduct annual volunteer satisfaction surveys and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Community Programs & Partnerships
· Lead the delivery, evaluation, and growth of School Fuel, Little Pantries, and other community-based food security initiatives, including After The Bell.
· Manage our School Fuel program by co-ordinating the ordering, payment, purchasing and distribution of healthy food to more than 35 local Barrie schools as part of their student nutrition program. Liaison with school administrators, Student Nutrition Counsel, Eat Well to Excel and local schools. Maintain the School Fuel website (Shopify).
· Manage & expand our Little Pantry program by co-ordinating the assembly and distribution of seasonally relevant food items to 11 host locations across the city.
· Identify opportunities to expand community impact through new partnerships and innovative program development.
Student & Intern Programs
· Recruit, onboard, supervise, mentor, and evaluate co-op students, interns, and summer students.
· Ensure meaningful learning experiences aligned with organizational needs and educational objectives.
· Build and maintain relationships with local colleges, universities and community agencies to support student placement opportunities.
Communications & Digital Content
· Maintain website pages: Get Involved, School Fuel and Little Pantries.
· Support volunteer and program communications through email, social media, and digital platforms.
Leadership & Administration
· Provide direct supervision, coaching, mentorship, and professional development to the Client & Volunteer Care Coordinator, fostering growth, accountability, and service excellence.
· Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, establish annual performance objectives, provide ongoing feedback, and complete performance evaluations for direct report.
· Delegate responsibilities appropriately and ensure effective coordination of volunteer, community program, and administrative functions.
· Support succession planning, cross-training, and knowledge sharing to ensure continuity of operations and strong team performance.
· Monitor program performance and prepare reports, statistics, budgets and recommendations for leadership.
· Participate as a member of the management team, contributing to organizational planning and continuous improvement.
· Other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications
· Post-secondary education in Social Services, Non-Profit Management, Education, Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in volunteer management, community programs, non-profit operations, education, community engagement or a related field.
· Demonstrated experience recruiting, supervising, engaging, and recognizing volunteers, staff, students, or teams.
· Experience building and maintaining positive relationships with community partners, schools, agencies, businesses, and stakeholders.
· Knowledge of food insecurity, poverty reduction, community resources and the non-profit sector is considered an asset.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations.
· Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
· Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
· Strong leadership skills to inspire, guide, empower and motivate diverse groups of volunteers with varying skill levels and backgrounds
· Build a positive team culture that fosters collaboration and mutual support
· Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
· Must be extremely well‑organized, able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, and work independently, and as part of a team
· Well developed relationship building and inter‑personal skills
· Familiarity and effectiveness with MS Office, email software (Constant Contact), and digital applications including website (Wix, WordPress, Shopify), graphic design (Canva) and AI.
· Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to support volunteer events, orientations, community outreach activities and special events.
