Position Overview:
The Field Welder welds and assembles metal components to effect repairs to construction equipment i.e. drills, cranes, trucks, trailers, and other similar equipment. He/she also fabricates and assembles new tools and other items as required. The Field Welder is responsible for field welding which includes but is not limited to splicing piles, installing walers and struts, and repairing equipment when required.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication of steel components for drilling rigs, casings, augers, and related equipment.
- Travel to job sites throughout the Lower Mainland (and occasionally further) to complete on-site welding repairs and fabrication.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to determine welding requirements and specifications.
- Perform MIG, Flux-Core, Stick (SMAW), and/or TIG welding on steel, as required by the task.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards, specifications, and safety requirements.
- Operate hand and power tools, grinders, cutting torches, and other fabrication equipment safely and effectively.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on drilling equipment, attachments, and tooling.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the shop and on-site.
- Follow all company health and safety policies, procedures, and applicable OH&S regulations.
- Complete documentation such as inspection reports, timesheets, and job records as required.
- Assist with other shop and yard duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Certified Welder (CWB ticket preferred) or equivalent trade experience; Red Seal an asset.
- Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on welding experience, ideally in heavy equipment, construction, or drilling industries.
- Proficiency in MIG and Flux-Core welding on heavy steel; Stick and/or TIG experience an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in equipment fabrication and repair.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (Class 3 an asset for towing/equipment transport).
- Tickets in good standing for Fall Protection, Confined Space and WHMIS. First Aid is considered an asset.
- Comfortable working both in a shop environment and traveling to job sites as needed.
- Strong attention to detail, safety-focused mindset, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Physically able to perform the demands of the role, including lifting, bending, kneeling, and working in varied weather conditions.
Pay: $36.00-$44.00 per hour
