Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Location: Ottawa and Surrounding Area, Ontario

Pay: $32.00 - $36.00 per hour

Our client, a well-established construction and heavy equipment company in the Ottawa region, is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join their team.
This position involves a combination of field service work and shop-based repairs, supporting a fleet of heavy construction and material handling equipment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring equipment remains safe, reliable, and productive across multiple job sites.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on heavy equipment and material handling equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
- Respond to service calls at various job sites, providing efficient and safe repairs.
- Conduct inspections and diagnostics to identify equipment issues and recommend solutions.
- Maintain accurate service records, repair documentation, and parts usage reports.
- Work closely with operations personnel to minimize equipment downtime.
- Support shop-based maintenance and repair activities when not attending field service calls.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Communicate equipment status and repair requirements to supervisors and team members.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Equipment Experience Preferred
Experience working on the following types of equipment is considered an asset:
- Excavators
- Bulldozers
- Wheel Loaders
- Articulated Trucks
- Crushing Equipment
- Telehandlers
- Forklifts
- Aerial Work Platforms and Boom Lifts
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Construction Equipment Technician, or related role.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy construction equipment.
- Valid Ontario Driver's Licence.
- Ability to travel to local job sites as required.
- Forklift certification is considered an asset.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physically capable of performing demanding mechanical work, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
