The Toll Attendant collects toll fees from private and commercial customers while supporting safe and efficient traffic flow as well as safety and security of the bridges and plaza. The incumbent provides service to customers in a professional and courteous manner while maintaining a sound understanding of applicable SIBC policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
Toll Collection 70%
- Responsible for safe, efficient and accurate toll collection
- Respond to customer inquiries including rate and payment questions
- Process transactions promptly and accurately
- Count cash, completes shift report and close Point of Sale batches
· Troubleshoot issues with toll and fee collection and report them to the Operations Supervisor
· Understand, communicate, and enforce requirements for free passage
· Review and confirm requirements on bills of lading a to qualify for free delivery
Traffic Flow Regulation 15%
· Monitor traffic flow and operates all toll equipment and cameras
- Hold and release traffic at toll booth as traffic patterns dictate
- Direct traffic into specific lanes according to procedures
- Assist turning around trucks and refused entry vehicles
- Maintain situational awareness including reporting suspicious activities and potential risk situations to Operations Supervisor
- Provide support to shift supervisor during emergency situations
Safety & Security 15%
- Coordinate with emergency response agencies in response preparedness and routine drills
- Coordinate special vehicle situations (e.g. oversized loads and medical emergency vehicles)
- Report operation concerns of the toll lane equipment and cameras to the Operations Supervisor
· Execute the components of the Emergency and Crisis Action Plan (ECAP) to deal with emergency situations.
· Complete accident/incident reports as required
· Monitor anchor point cameras and receives alarm calls
· Inform supervisors and security agencies regarding suspicious behaviour on the crossing
- Perform miscellaneous duties as requested
Essential Qualifications
- Combination of High School Diploma with two years related experience
- Comfort with the use of electronic systems required
- Prior experience in the collection of payment, including cash handling and POS, is an asset.
· Demonstrated initiative, problem solving, customer responsiveness, decision making/judgement, professional manner, detail orientation, time management and ability to maintain focus are required
· Basic math skills required
· Ability to handle a high volume of transactions quickly and accurately required
· Ability to work on a rotation basis (days and nights) required
· Bilingual in French is an asset.
