We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and organized Personal Support Worker (PSW) or support companion to assist a friendly university student with a physical disability who is living independently while attending Huron University in London, Ontario.
The goal of this role is to support her independence, help with daily living activities, and provide companionship while respecting her autonomy and privacy.
This position is ideal for a PSW, nursing student, occupational therapy student, social work student, kinesiology student, or someone with experience supporting individuals with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with grocery shopping and household errands
- Prepare and organize food to make meals and snacks easily accessible (washing, cutting, portioning, and storing food)
- Light meal preparation
- Help organize the kitchen and living space to maximize independence
- Assist with laundry and other light household tasks as needed
- Accompany her to appointments, shopping, or community activities when required
- Provide companionship and social support
- Encourage independence while providing assistance only where needed
- Communicate with family regarding scheduling or any concerns, when appropriate
Qualifications
- PSW certification is an asset but is not required
- Experience supporting individuals with disabilities is preferred
- Patient, kind, dependable, and respectful
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle are preferred
- Ability to travel between London and Toronto on occasion is an asset
- Current First Aid/CPR certification is an asset
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain one)
Schedule
- Approximately 20 hours per week
- Flexible scheduling over approximately three days per week or shorter shifts throughout the week
- Position begins in early September
- Occasional support in Toronto during weekends, holidays, or school breaks may be requested
