A professionally managed retirement residence in Hamilton is seeking a dependable and compassionate Dietary Aide to support daily meal service and maintain a clean, welcoming dining environment for residents.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up the dining room, serving meals and beverages, washing dishes, cleaning and sanitizing kitchen and dining areas, and assisting the Cook with basic food-service duties. This position is well suited to someone who works efficiently, takes pride in cleanliness and enjoys interacting respectfully with seniors.
Responsibilities
- Set up the dining room before each meal service
- Serve meals, snacks and beverages to residents in a friendly and respectful manner
- Follow meal-service instructions, portion requirements and residents’ documented dietary restrictions
- Provide coffee, tea, water, juice and other beverages during meal service
- Clear, clean and reset tables after meals
- Wash and properly store dishes, utensils, cookware and kitchen equipment
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, dining room and food-service areas
- Complete assigned cleaning and sanitation duties throughout each shift
- Assist the Cook with basic food preparation and meal-service tasks as directed
- Properly store, label and rotate food and supplies
- Follow all food-safety, infection-control and workplace-safety procedures
- Immediately report dietary concerns, spills, hazards or equipment problems
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with residents, visitors, staff and management
Mandatory Qualifications
- Valid Food Handler Certificate
- Ability to communicate, read and write proficiently in English
- Ability to follow dietary instructions and food-safety procedures accurately
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds
- Ability to work efficiently during busy meal-service periods
- Friendly, patient and respectful approach when working with seniors
- Strong attendance, punctuality and reliability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to obtain a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
- Availability for scheduled daytime, evening, weekend and statutory-holiday shifts
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Dietary Aide or Food Service Worker
- Experience in a retirement residence, long-term-care home, hospital or institutional kitchen
- Food Service Worker certification
- Experience with commercial dishwashing, sanitation and dining-room service
- Knowledge of seniors’ dietary needs, food allergies and texture-modified diets
- CPR and First Aid certification
- ORCA training is an asset; required training will be provided
