Andrew Rural Academy, a rural K-12 public charter school in Andrew, Alberta, is entering its second year of operation for the 2026–2027 school year. Following a successful inaugural year launched in September 2025.

Secondary Math/Science Teacher
· Role: Grades 7–12 Mathematics and Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Science).
· Key Responsibility: Lead instruction that embeds STEM applications into every Alberta curriculum topic, utilizing rural industries and local contexts to demonstrate real-world math and science principles.
· Asset: Experience with project-based learning, agricultural science, or engineering design challenges.
Candidate Qualifications
We are seeking educators who demonstrate a strong commitment to professional growth and student success. Ideal candidates will possess:
- Professional Standards: A deep understanding of teacher competencies and growth as outlined in the Teaching Quality Standard.
- Curriculum Expertise: Specialized training in the Alberta curriculum, with a particular focus on the required subject matter.
- Technology Integration: The ability to leverage technology to enhance and personalize learning experiences.
- Inclusive Practice: Proven experience with diverse learners, including creating Individualized Education Plans (I.E.P.'s), implementing varied strategies in inclusive classrooms, and monitoring student impact.
- Pedagogical Approach: A commitment to differentiated teaching and assessment through structured, inquiry-based practices while facilitating learning through trust, empathy, and mutual respect. Building a foundation where students feel valued, understood, and secure enough to take academic risks.
- Learning Environment: The skill to develop and foster an engaging classroom atmosphere that challenges and inspires learners.
- Research Mindset: An understanding of and interest in undertaking action research to improve educational outcomes.
- Professional Disposition: The ability to contribute positively to our evolving school culture through flexibility, integrity, teamwork, and accountability.
Certification
Candidates must hold a valid Alberta Permanent or Interim Professional Teaching Certificate OR meet the criteria for the new Expedited Teaching Certificates (applications open June 1, 2026):
- Interim Specialized Teacher Certificate: For professionals with degrees in Humanities, Math, or Science and relevant experience. Requires completion of four teacher preparation courses and a practicum.
- Developmental Teacher Certificate: For final-year Bachelor of Education students.
- Conditional Teacher Certificate: For internationally educated teachers eligible to work in Canada.
Note: Successful candidates hired under expedited certificates will receive mentorship and support to complete requirements for permanent certification.

Now in its second year, Andrew Rural Academy provides a unique K-12 education where STEM is interpreted through a rural lens. Our mandate requires teachers to actively incorporate STEM concepts within standard Alberta curriculum lessons, ensuring students see the connection between academic theory and rural practice. With over 85 students already enrolled and a growing high school division, you will join an established, dynamic team shaping the future of rural education.
