Backland Expedition Gear designs and manufactures premium expedition systems for vans. Canadian-built, developed and tested in the Rockies. We build racks, carriers, protection, and modular systems for Sprinter, Transit, and ProMaster platforms.
Role summary
Own the customer journey from first contact through configuration, purchase, and handoff. This is a consultative, technical sales role for customers making high-value decisions. You will translate needs and dreams into complete, correct systems.
Core purpose
- Convert customer goals into complete expedition systems and own the sale end-to-end
- Guide selection, sequencing, and rationale
What you’ll do
- Qualify leads and run consultative sales conversations (in person, phone, email)
- Configure complete systems (not single items): racks, carriers, protection, accessories
- Validate fitment and compatibility across platforms (Sprinter, Transit, ProMaster)
- Build quotes, sequence orders, and close sales
- Prevent order errors through strong product understanding
- Own CRM accuracy (HubSpot or similar) and customer records
- Coordinate clean handoff to install/production
- Follow up post-sale to ensure outcome and capture feedback
- Feed real-world insights back into product and messaging
Who you are
- Actively into van life, overlanding, or outdoors / travel
- Strong mechanical intuition (mounting, loads, clearances, real-world use)
- Confident communicator; can lead a customer to a decision
- Organized; you do not miss details
- Consultative sales approach; you guide, not push
- Comfortable owning conversations end-to-end
Nice to have
- Hands-on van builds or install experience
- Familiarity with racks, carriers, armor, electrical basics
- CRM experience (HubSpot)
- Shopify/POS exposure

- High quote-to-sale conversion
- Minimal order errors and rework
- Customers are confident and ready to move forward
- Clean CRM and clear internal handoffs
- Positive post-install feedback
Schedule
- Full-time, on-site
- Some weekend coverage as needed

This is not a front desk role. We are looking for someone who understands the lifestyle and can guide customers through complete expedition setups.

Pay: $25.00-$36.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 – 44.0 per week
