Purpose
Provide planning, direction & control of available resources for ensuring timely, damage-free loading/unloading of LTL freight in a cross-dock operation.
KEY Responsibilities: -
- Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in loading/unloading trucks and in moving and storing materials or products.
- Assign job tasks to workers according to loading and unloading schedules.
- Verify materials loaded or unloaded against bill of lading.
- Train new employees in job duties
- Coordinate with O.S & D staff for any over, short, and damaged freight.
- Instruct dock crew to load freight according to dispatch coding requirements and to move freight according to special priority requests.
- Ensure effective performance management of assigned employees while creating a teamwork environment.
- Foster safe handling and storage of dangerous goods
- Ensure that all work is performed according to company procedures for dock operations.
Standard Responsibilities
- To take responsibility for the department in the absence of the manager to achieve standards of operation as required by company policy
- To assist in hiring, orientation, training, appraisal, and discipline of staff following procedures laid down by company policy.
- To assist in maintaining health and safety in the department together with proper action in the event of emergency, as required by law and by company policy
- To demonstrate commitment to customer care and achieve professional handling of complaints following procedures laid down by company policy.
- To achieve effective communication by briefing/debriefing staff, assisting at department meetings and maintaining positive communication with other departments
- To contribute ideas to assist in welfare and motivation of department staff
- To prioritize and assign duties, or where applicable, perform the duties of a staff member or provide assistance as necessary to achieve required standards and productivity.
- To ensure compliance with company and house rules
- To contribute to the security of the building, company assets, and customer/contractor/co-worker with full adherence to security procedures with proper handling of keys as appropriate to the position following procedures laid down by company policy.
Skill, knowledge, and abilities required.
- Minimum 2 – 3 years of supervisory experience in a cross dock, LTL environment.
- Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Knowledge of proper freight handling/loading techniques.
- Ability to work extended hours, as necessary.
- High School diploma or equivalent; post-secondary degree in Supply Chain or Logistics is preferred.
Pay: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
