The Kerrisdale Community Centre Society is looking for a Food Services Assistant to assist the Food Services Coordinator in preparing and serving a daily lunch and coffee bar service at the Kerrisdale Seniors Centre. The Assistant must work effectively with volunteers, and exercise some independent action and judgement in day-to-day activities related to kitchen operations. The Food Services Assistant‘s responsibilities include cooking the daily menu and preparing baked goods; keeping food stock organized, ensuring proper food handling and health standards and performing other related duties as required. Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, procedures, and equipment used in food services and catering operations for a Community Services facility. Comprehensive knowledge of health regulations pertaining to the preparation, storage, and serving of food. Considerable knowledge of food preparation techniques and nutritive value. Ability to oversee the work of volunteers and provide training to staff and volunteers. Calm, flexible, with a positive attitude to providing service to the senior clientele are essential.
This is a part-time position; regular hours of work are 6:00am to 2:00pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Additional shifts may be required including weekends.
The successful applicant will have a diploma in a food services related community college program, or equivalent, and 3 years experience in food preparation. Food Safe Level 1 Certificate required, Level 2 preferred.
