POSITION OVERVIEW:
The purpose of the Instructor is to contribute to the academic success of students and to the success of Brighton College in achieving its statement of purpose. Under general supervision, the Instructor is responsible for providing instruction and facilitating student learning according to the prescribed curriculum.
This is a temporary teaching position for September 2026, with the possibility of extending the contract based on instructional needs.

WORK WEEK:
Teaching schedule and hours will be based on course requirements and the College's instructional schedule.
LOCATION:
Brighton College – Burnaby, BC
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree, diploma, or certification from a recognized university, college, or institution relating to the area of instruction
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- At least 24 months of experience in a related field
- Instructional experience preferred and/or possession of an instructor's certificate, or willingness to take additional instructional delivery workshop(s)
- Professional experience using Microsoft Office applications in a workplace environment is considered an asset
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and their practical applications in professional environments
- Relevant industry skills and knowledge relating to the area of instruction
- Advanced oral and written communication skills, including presentation and group facilitation
- Ability to explain computer applications and technical concepts clearly to students with varying levels of experience
- Ability to motivate and inspire students
- Ability to demonstrate and encourage high standards of behaviour, a professional attitude, and commitment to quality service
- Ability to work cooperatively with other instructors and staff
- Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings, and capabilities of all students, provide constructive feedback, and treat students equitably regardless of culture or background
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:Course Delivery and Classroom Activities
- Delivering instruction to students that meets course and program objectives as set out in the most current curriculum
- Preparing lesson plans and teaching aids that utilize a variety of teaching methods to support student learning
- Providing practical demonstrations and hands-on activities using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Being prepared for the start date of each new course
- Starting course(s) on the scheduled date
- Explaining the course outline to students on the first day of class
- Administering and grading assignments, quizzes, and exams as necessary
- Tracking student attendance on the prescribed report and returning it to administrative staff as required
- Ensuring that classrooms and equipment are kept in an orderly state
- Maintaining and making available to students an email address and responding to student queries within 24 hours when possible, with the exception of weekends and statutory holidays
- Discussing students' progress with them individually or as a group
Relationships with Students, Staff and Management
- Dealing with students, staff, and other instructors in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner
- Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with students
- Alerting administration of any student concerns that arise
- Informing administrative staff of any significant changes or problems that arise during a course
- Attending Instructor Meetings, as required
- Possessing a clear understanding of and upholding the College's policies and procedures relating to students and instructors
- Cooperating with administration and Campus Directors in the performance of their duties
- Completing and submitting required forms and records to administration in a timely manner
- Giving the College sufficient notice of any upcoming absence
Course Updates and Development
- Providing copies of modified assignments, quizzes, or exams, including marking keys, to administration
- Participating in the development and evaluation of curriculum and instructional materials, as required
- Keeping course content up to date and maintaining relevant industry skills and knowledge
