Glooscap Ventures is seeking to hire Retail Clerks for the Glooscap Landing Seafood Market. This is a permanent position responsible for supporting daily market operations and delivering a high quality customer experience. Retail Clerks are the front line of the market and play a key role in customer service, product handling, and maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming retail environment.
The successful candidate will assist customers, handle point-of-sale transactions, stock and rotate products, and support overall market operations. This position is well suited to individuals who are reliable, customer focused, and comfortable working in a fast paced retail or food service environment.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service and Sales
- Greet customers in a professional, friendly, and welcoming manner
- Assist customers with product selection, questions, and general inquiries
- Operate point-of-sale systems and accurately process cash, debit, and credit transactions
- Maintain a positive customer experience at all times
Product Handling and Merchandising
- Stock, rotate, and display seafood and retail products according to quality and safety standards
- Monitor product freshness and report concerns to the Manager or Assistant Manager
- Assist with receiving deliveries and restocking inventory
- Ensure displays and sales areas are clean, organized, and well maintained
Market Operations
- Support opening and closing procedures as assigned
- Maintain cleanliness of the retail space, including counters, displays, and work areas
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety procedures at all times
- Support loss prevention and inventory accuracy
General
- Assist with promotions, special events, and community initiatives related to the market
- Attend training and staff meetings as required
- Maintain professionalism when handling customer or operational information
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager or Assistant Manager
Qualifications & Experience
- Education and/or experience in retail, food service, hospitality, or customer service
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Willingness to learn food safety and seafood handling requirements
- Ability to handle cash and point-of-sale transactions accurately
- Strong understanding of and respect for Mi’kmaq culture and values
- Reliable, punctual, and adaptable in a fast paced environment
- Criminal Record Check required
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry products and supplies
- Ability to work in a cold or refrigerated environment as required
- Manual dexterity for handling products, equipment, and point-of-sale systems
Working Conditions
- Work takes place in a retail seafood market environment
- Permanent position
- Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs
- Regular interaction with customers, staff, and community members
- Fast paced environment requiring flexibility, professionalism, and teamwork
