About Mishka Social Services:
Mishka Social Services is a Hamilton-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting newcomers, immigrants, refugees, and racialized communities. We offer culturally responsive programs, food security services, a respite program for individuals with disabilities, and other vital community resources.
Position Summary
We are looking for compassionate and energetic volunteers to join our respite program as Recreational Aides. Volunteers will play a key role in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment for individuals with disabilities. This is a rewarding opportunity to gain experience in community service, disability support, and recreation while making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and facilitating recreational, social, and leisure activities for program participants.
- Provide encouragement and companionship to individuals with disabilities in a group setting.
- Help ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of participants.
- Support program setup, cleanup, and organization.
- Work collaboratively with staff and other volunteers to ensure smooth program delivery.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with participants, caregivers, and team members.
Qualifications
- Experience or interest in working with individuals with disabilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to engage participants in a variety of activities.
- Reliable, patient, and adaptable.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment.
