Lead Service Technician – Overhead Doors & Loading Docks
Dock Systems Inc. (DSI) is seeking an experienced Lead Service Technician to join our field service team. In this role, you will install, diagnose, repair, service, and replace commercial dock and door equipment, while supporting preventive maintenance work, customer service, documentation, and job site leadership.
This position is ideal for a hands-on technician with strong mechanical troubleshooting ability, experience with commercial loading dock and overhead door systems, and the ability to lead helpers or junior technicians on site.
Duties
- Install, diagnose, repair, service, and replace commercial dock and door equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and services, complete PMP sheets, and carry out minor repairs on site where appropriate.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures and recommend appropriate corrective actions to restore safe and reliable operation.
- Lead assigned job sites by directing, supporting, and utilizing helpers and junior technicians to maintain efficiency, quality, and organization.
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding work performed, equipment condition, and recommended repairs or maintenance.
- Complete service reports, work orders, PMP documentation, time records, and related paperwork accurately and on time.
- Maintain the assigned service truck in a clean, organized, safe, and operational condition.
- Maintain stock levels on the service truck, report low inventory, pick up and deliver parts/equipment as directed, and return unused materials to the warehouse.
- Follow company safety procedures, use required PPE, identify unsafe conditions, and work in compliance with applicable health and safety legislation.
- Participate in staff meetings, safety meetings, and ongoing training to improve technical knowledge and service quality.
Qualifications
- Previous experience repairing and installing commercial docks, doors, and related equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Experience working with hydraulic and electrical systems; electrical knowledge is an asset.
- Ability to weld and use a cutting torch.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, in varying weather conditions, and perform physically demanding work.
