The AV Rental Shop Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the rental shop, ensuring equipment readiness, supervising staff, and delivering excellent customer service. This role combines hands-on technical oversight with team leadership and operational management in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities Operations & Equipment Management
- Oversee preparation, testing, packing, and return of AV rental equipment
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained, repaired, and stored
- Maintain accurate inventory records and rental tracking
- Coordinate shop workflow to meet rental schedules and deadlines
- Identify equipment issues and recommend repairs or replacements
Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and schedule shop staff and technicians
- Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable team culture
- Provide clear direction and hands-on support
- Participate in hiring and onboarding as needed
Customer Service
- Serve as a point of contact for customers picking up or returning equipment
- Ensure accurate fulfillment of rental orders and documentation
- Address customer questions or concerns professionally and promptly
- Support long-term customer relationships through consistent service
Administration & Coordination
- Work closely with ownership and office staff on scheduling and logistics
- Assist with shop policies, safety procedures, and process improvements
- Monitor shop supplies and place orders as needed
- Support event load-outs, load-ins, and onsite assistance when required
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in AV, event production, rental operations, or a related technical field
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Working knowledge of audio, video, lighting, and related equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, team-focused environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move AV equipment (typically up to 50 lbs)
- Ability to stand, bend, and work in a warehouse/shop setting
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and weekends to assist with large event bookings
