Reporting to the Manager, Regional Safety, the Safety Advisor is a field-based role responsible for providing safety guidance and expertise to all levels of leadership. This includes ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, industry standards, and applicable legislation. The role serves as a key resource to Volker Stevin by delivering exceptional customer service, fostering collaboration, and contributing to the overall success of the safety team.
Volker Stevin is currently seeking two Safety Advisors to work closely with project teams, supervisors, and leadership across assigned regions. The successful candidates will help promote a culture of safety excellence, support continuous improvement initiatives, and provide practical, field-based safety solutions. Travel within assigned operational areas will be required.
How You’ll Add Value

Actively promote a strong safety culture by fostering a safe and productive work environment.

Provide day-to-day health and safety (H&S) support for worksite programs, procedures and campaigns.

Monitor core safety programs (FLHA, near-miss reporting, site inspections, hazard identification and control) and provide timely feedback and coaching to leaders and crews.

Conduct regular worksite inspections to identify hazards, verify controls and ensure compliance with company standards; assess risks and recommend corrective actions.

Anticipate, identify, and evaluate risks, contributing to both proactive and reactive control measures.

Deliver and support training on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.

Lead and participate in root causes and recommending preventive actions.

Interpret and apply H&S regulations to support leaders in demonstrating due diligence.

Support compliance with the National Safety Code (NSC) and implement corrective actions as required.

Coordinate with internal stakeholders on modified work programs, WCB case management, and related claims.

Support COR audit requirements, including planning, preparation, coordination, and tracking action items.

Develop practical, cost-effective solutions to health and safety challenges.

Assist the Manager, Regional Safety in setting safety goals, tracking performance, and recognizing progress in compliance and stewardship.

Coach and mentor front-line leaders on core H&S responsibilities and competency development.

Maintain accurate safety records, including training logs, incident reports, system entries, and inspection results.

Collaborate with the Safety Performance Analyst to interpret and develop meaningful safety data insights for operational teams.

Support the “One Volker” approach by collaborating with the wider EHS team to implement and sustain safety practices and protocols.

Act as a safety ambassador in meetings and forums, promoting a positive safety culture and contributing thoughtfully.

Foster a proactive safety culture through clear communication, engagement, coaching, and reinforcement of safe work practices.
What You Bring
-
2+ years of safety related experience within heavy civil construction is preferred.

Occupational Health and Safety training and/or certifications (such as OH&S, NCSO, CHSEP, CRSP etc.).

Ability to build key relationships with cross-functional internal and external stakeholders.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions.

Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed.
Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing and Fit for Work Testing will be required.
