Special Needs Assistant (SNA) – Job Posting

Tiny Tot Early Years Centre ( Rainbow) is seeking a caring, patient, and dedicated Special Needs Assistant (SNA) to join our team. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting children with diverse needs and committed to fostering an inclusive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment.
As an SNA, you will work directly with children requiring additional support, collaborate with educators, and help ensure every child can participate meaningfully in daily routines and programming.
Key Responsibilities
Child Support & Inclusion
- Provide individualized support to children with developmental, behavioural, physical, or communication needs
- Assist with daily routines such as transitions, toileting, feeding, dressing, and sensory regulation
- Implement strategies recommended by educators, therapists, or specialists
- Encourage independence by supporting the child’s participation in activities
- Promote inclusion by helping the child engage with peers and group activities
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with educators to adapt activities, materials, and environments
- Communicate observations regarding progress, challenges, and strategies
- Participate in team meetings related to the child’s support plan
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the dignity of the child and family
Safety & Environment
- Ensure a safe environment through appropriate supervision and risk awareness
- Use de-escalation techniques and follow behaviour-support plans
- Support sensory needs using tools, quiet spaces, and visual supports
- Assist with mobility or physical support as required
Documentation & Professionalism
- Maintain accurate notes on observations, strategies, and progress
- Follow all centre policies including OHS, behaviour guidance, and inclusion
- Engage in ongoing training related to special needs and child development
- Model professionalism in communication and teamwork
Qualifications
- Experience supporting children with special needs (daycare or school setting preferred)
- Knowledge of child development and inclusive practices
- Ability to follow individualized support plans
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Patience, empathy, and commitment to inclusion
- Relevant certifications or licenses such as CNA, AA, IBI certification preferred but not mandatory
- First Aid certification
- Clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
