Overview
The Pederson Group has partnered with a Winnipeg-based general contractor to find a Controller to join their growing team.
Reporting to senior leadership, the Controller will lead the accounting function and support the continued growth of the organization. This hands-on leadership role oversees the day-to-day accounting operations and ensures accurate, timely financial reporting across all active projects, with plenty of room to strengthen processes and mentor the team.
Duties
- Supervise and support accounting staff responsible for invoicing, accounts payable and payroll.
- Maintain and manage the job cost system in QuickBooks across multiple concurrent projects.
- Keep job costing, budget tracking and profitability reporting accurate for construction contracts.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close, financial statement preparation and reconciliations.
- Manage cash flow, subcontractor payments and holdback and lien compliance.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis for management and ownership.
- Ensure tax filings and other regulatory requirements are handled and on time.
- Work with external accountants, auditors and financial institutions as needed.
- Find and put in place process improvements that strengthen internal controls and reporting.
Skills
- 5+ years of proven experience as a Controller or in a senior accounting role, ideally in commercial construction or a related project-based industry.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) is preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of job costing and construction accounting principles.
- Solid skills in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience managing and mentoring accounting staff.
- Sharp attention to detail, strong organization and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Clear communication and a collaborative, hands-on approach.
Pay: $90,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
