New Afton
Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 105,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. About the Role
Schedule: 7 on 7 off, 12-hour shifts, day shift.
Position Reports To: Tailings & Surface Supervisor
Position Overview
This experienced operator position will be responsible for supporting all site surface activities including dewatering wells, tailings piping management and Batch Plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Dedication to safety, equipment care, and the environment
- Repairs to dam structure as required in the Tailings Storage Facility by operating Dozer, Loader and Excavator
- Piping inspection, maintenance and layout modifications (shimming, bolting and fusing) for both HDPE, flanged carbon steel and Victaulic pipping
- Dewatering wells inspections, maintenance and operation
- Stormwater infrastructure inspections and water management around site
- Reclaim water systems management and operation
- Batch plant operation
- Site services including but not limited to overall appearance and cleanliness of site, parking lot and road maintenance, ditching, snow clearing around building doors and walkways, brush cutting, Lawn mowing
- Earthworks projects including but not limited to grading and maintenance of dumps and borrow areas, pit road access maintenance, managing subsidence impacts to roads or other site infrastructure, progressive reclamation activities.
- Waste ore and live pile ore handling with Dozer and articulated rock truck
Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 6 months (or 500 hrs. equivalent) operating Dozers, Loaders and Excavators
- Ability to read cross section drawings and grade stakes
- Air brakes endorsement is an asset
- Experience with HDPE pipe fusing is an asset
- Experience using SAP, INX, Microsoft Suite is an asset
- Valid Class 1 Driver’s License would be considered an asset
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
- Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
- Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
Compensation
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $65,000 to $75,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
