Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing case management and institutional decision support in matters
elated to student care and student risk. Exercises independent professional judgment and participates directly in university process that assess, manage and respond to high-risk student situations through interdisciplinary review and risk evaluation mechanism. The SHWO supports complex, sensitive cases with implications for student safety, legal compliance and institutional reputation, while also maintaining the day-to-day administrative operation within the office of the Associate Vice-President Student Health and Wellness. The incumbent works with a high
degree of autonomy, maintains strict confidentiality and contributes to institutional governance,risk migration and policy aligned decision making.
Qualifications:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Knowledge of office administration policies, procedures, and processes plus customer/client services
- Knowledge of student health and wellness services and practices within the university as well as the broader university offices, academic units, departments, and divisions
- Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific and enterprise software, and technology devices
- Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity and trauma informed approaches
•Responds to conflict, complaints and questions in-person, email or by telephone Represents •AVPSHW to internal and external contacts including faculty, senior administration, other universities, senior government and political representatives, and partners
- Interacts across a range of stakeholders with a focus on the provision of process and program expertise plus the exchange, collection, and dissemination of information
- Builds and maintains relationships between and across academic units, administrative units, and external stakeholders
- Manages challenging and high-stakes interactions with diplomacy, understanding institutional context, risk, and management perspectives
- Determines priorities and actions based on previous experience, understanding the nature of the work and through reliance on policies, procedures, and processes
- Works with high degree of autonomy demonstrating agility and creativity when the unexpected student risk case is encountered
- Identifies issues, consults, collaborates and follows polices, procedure and processes
- Strong crisis management abilities when dealing with students at risk
- Contributes to the reputation of the AVPSHW and the university more broadly through interactions with internal and external stakeholders
- Supports the effective and efficient operations of the AVPSHW office, and of the AVPSHW through effective time and calendar management,
- Contributes to financial stewardship through oversight of the budget transactions
- Contributes to the accuracy and timelines of work unit deliverables, work product, and administrative services.
- Familiarizes new employees with tasks, duties, practices, and processes
- Provides guidance, function oversight and knowledge-sharing to staff within scope of responsibility
Education and Experience:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
- Completion of bachelor’s degree in health sciences
- Minimum of four years previous experience, which requires student health and wellness within a post secondary institution, which includes demonstrating assessment, referral coordination and support for individual with complex needs.
