Job Title: After School Program Director
Start Date: September 2, 2026
The After School Program Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising a safe, engaging, and inclusive after-school program for students in Pre-Primary through Grade 5. The successful candidate will create a positive environment where children feel supported, valued, and encouraged to participate in recreational, creative, and educational activities. The Program Director fosters positive relationships with students, families, and school staff while ensuring the highest standards of safety and care.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise students during the after-school program, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Determine staffing needs for the program; recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate after-school program staff as necessary to ensure safe supervision ratios and the effective operation of the program.
- Plan and lead a variety of age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, outdoor play, games, STEM activities, reading, and quiet time.
- Create an inclusive, welcoming environment that encourages participation, cooperation, and respect.
- Support students' social, emotional, and behavioural development using positive behaviour management strategies.
- Assist students with transitions between school, activities, and parent pick-up.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure students are released only to authorized individuals.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with parents regarding student participation and any concerns.
- Work collaboratively with school administrators, teachers, and fellow staff members.
- Ensure activity spaces remain clean, organized, and well-maintained.
- Administer basic first aid when necessary and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Follow all school policies, child protection procedures, and health and safety regulations.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children between the ages of 4 and 11 in a school, childcare, camp, or recreation setting.
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging activities for children with varying interests and abilities.
- Strong classroom or group management skills with a positive, proactive approach to behaviour guidance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also demonstrating initiative and independence.
- Dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple responsibilities.
- Patient, energetic, enthusiastic, and committed to creating a positive experience for children.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Current Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
- Understanding of child development and age-appropriate practices.
- Physical ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading after-school, childcare, camp, or youth recreation programs.
- Training in behaviour management, conflict resolution, or inclusive education.
- Experience supporting children with diverse learning or behavioural needs.
Working Conditions
- Part-time position during the school year.
- Hours typically follow the school day and extend through the after-school program (approximately 2:45 p.m.–5:30 p.m., depending on program needs).
- Requires active supervision both indoors and outdoors.
- This position plays an important role in extending the school's caring community beyond the classroom by providing students with a safe, engaging, and enriching environment at the end of each school day.

Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour
