Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic or capable and ready to learn apprentice to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting On-highway trucks and trailers, heavy equipment, and diesel/propane generators to ensure optimal operational performance. This role requires a strong background in heavy equipment maintenance, electrical systems, and mechanical repair, with the ability to interpret schematics and work independently or as part of a team. The position offers an engaging work environment focused on safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Duties
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on trucks, trailers, and equipment, including engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems and air systems
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using schematics, basic troubleshooting skills, and diagnostic tools
- Perform suspension repairs
- Troubleshoot problems related to control modules multiplexing, low voltage systems, and electrical components
- Complete basic welding and fabrication
- Diagnose, repair and maintain refrigerant systems
- Conduct all jobs with safety at the forefront.
- Assist with installation of new equipment and upgrades to existing machinery
- Maintain detailed documentation of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in heavy duty maintenance.
- Proficiency in electrical systems including low voltage wiring and industrial electrician experience
- Familiarity with Electronic control modules and schematics interpretation
- Experience with basic software for maintenance tracking and reporting
- Efficiently be able to use diagnostic software
- Skilled in welding, HVAC systems, engines, suspension, air brakes, and other general mechanical repairs
- Ability to analyze complex problems quickly and develop effective solutions
- Excellent communication skills in English for clear documentation and collaboration
- Customer service orientation with the ability to work well within a team environment
- Knowledge of safety standards related to industrial maintenance practices
- Ability to ask for help and work with others
We are a small tight knit team looking for the right person for the job. We focus on thorough and quality repairs, customer satisfaction, clear communication and completing jobs within set timelines.
We are looking for either an experienced Journeyman or an apprentice with the ability to show up, take instruction, is willing to learn and improve themselves and those they are working with.
The bulk of the work will be in a shop setting on on highway tractor/trailer configurations with some on the road work available depending on work load and capability.
Our ideal candidate is local to Whitehorse but fly in/fly out rotations available for the right person.
