We have an exciting opportunity for a CAD Designer/Drafter - Electrical within our Engineering Team in our Edmonton office. Reporting to the Engineer department manager, the successful candidate will be accountable for creating and designing electrical and controls drawings for control system panel building and system retrofit / upgrades.
The successful candidate will become a crucial part of designing power generation, power management , engine and turbine related projects primarily across Western Canada. Location requires working out of our Edmonton Alberta office full time on a Monday to Friday schedule.
Having direct knowledge of Diesel/gas engine and power generation control systems would be desired as your main role would be supporting Woodward controls within Canada. Experience in AutoCad / AutoCad Electric and ability to interpret and design control system upgrade drawings would be a core requirement. Knowledge pertaining to control systems specializing in either steam turbines or gas turbines, experience in either Woodward, GE, Siemens, Solar Turbines or PLC based turbine control systems would be beneficial.

- Possibly assist in Electrical studies such as load flow, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Graduate of a technical institute in electrical systems
- Professional training in drafting
- Professional drafting (designing) experience would be an asset
- Proficiency with Autodesk is required (Microstation or Solidworks expertise is an asset but not required)
- Proficient computer experience in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong problem solving skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work in a dynamic work environment
- Excellent time management skills with a strong attention to detail
- Professional team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- A positive, “can-do” attitude and client focused approach
- Any of the following skills would be considered an asset:
- Experience with 2D modelling of electrical components in a manufacturing setting
- Experience with electrical system testing/commissioning
- Experience with protection relays and associated software
- Experience with ETAP, SKM or EASYPOWER software (beneficial)
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD or Overhead Design software (beneficial)
- Experience with Controls and Instrumentation Design
