Geotechnical Superintendent

Alamos Gold’s Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos’ foundation for growth for many years to come. Role Overview
As Geotechnical Superintendent, you will play a strategic role in enhancing mine safety, stability, and operational performance. You will be responsible for leading and executing initiatives related to ground control, seismicity, geotechnical modelling, and paste fill systems. Working closely with Engineering, Geology, and Operations teams, you will drive innovation, foster growth, and enhance overall technical performance at the Young-Davidson Mine.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Development: Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians while fostering a strong safety culture.
- Technical Guidance & Support: Provide expert advice to engineering, geology, and operations teams on geotechnical matters and ground stability.
- Mine Planning & Design: Contribute to and review short- and long-term mine designs, production strategies, and backfill systems.
- Geotechnical Analysis & Monitoring: Analyze ground performance, seismicity, and rock mechanics data to ensure safe underground operations.
- Project & Capital Support: Provide geotechnical expertise for capital projects, budgeting, and contractor collaboration.
What You Bring to the Table
- 10+ years of experience in underground hard rock mining, with expertise in rock mechanics and ground control.
- Proven track record in leading teams and improving mine safety and performance.
- Sc. in Mining Engineering and P.Eng. designation in Ontario.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Deswik, Map3D, and other geotechnical software, along with advanced Excel capabilities.
- Passion for safe, efficient, and innovative underground mining practices.

Working Conditions
