Position Overview:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Business Development Specialist is responsible for supporting revenue growth by identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities within a designated geographic region and line of business.
This role is focused on proactive, in-person sales activity, building strong customer relationships, and contributing to the overall success of the sales function. Working closely with Operations, Finance, and Leadership, the Business Development Specialist helps ensure a seamless customer experience from initial outreach through onboarding.
This role is best suited for a driven, self-motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced, “hunter” sales environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain a strong, consistent pipeline of new business opportunities within the assigned territory and line of business.
- Conduct daily in-person cold calls to prospective customers, meeting or exceeding established activity targets.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the CRM, including customer details, sales potential, and progress toward closing.
- Identify customer needs and recommend tailored solutions that align with company services.
- Stay informed on competitor offerings, market conditions, and opportunities within the territory.
- Collaborate with Operations to support service implementation and continuously improve the customer experience.
- Assist in the development of marketing materials, including presentations, brochures, and sales collateral.
- Partner with Finance to support strong accounts receivable performance for new customers.
- Prepare and present pricing and service proposals using internal tools.
- Effectively handle and overcome customer objections to secure new business.
- Participate in joint field activities with leadership and cross-functional team members as needed.
- Represent the company at networking events, community engagements, and customer appreciation initiatives.
- Adapt focus across different service lines to support evolving business needs and growth objectives.
- Support the preparation and submission of larger commercial and municipal RFPs/RFQs as required.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in Business, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle; ability to travel within a 100 km radius of Salmon Arm, Kamloops, or Vernon.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in an outside sales or similar business development role.
- Proven success in a cold-calling or “hunter” sales environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience working with a CRM platform.
- Availability to attend customer events outside of regular business hours, as required.
- Ability to work independently in a semi-autonomous, hybrid work environment.
- Available to work a standard Monday to Friday schedule (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM) and participate in meetings as required.
