Position: Counsellor
Employment Type: Part-time (0.8 FTE), temporary, in-scope position Term to March 31, 2027; may be the possibility of extension

Duties and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Counsellor to support our Counselling Services including Rapid Access, Individual, Family, and Child & Youth Counselling. In this role, you will provide clinical counselling, therapy, and support services to individuals, couples, children, youth, and families navigating personal and interpersonal challenges. You will also facilitate group programming, engage in meaningful community collaboration, and provide clinics off-site for Rapid Access Counselling.
You will be part of a supportive team environment and will contribute to advancing the agency’s mission and values in all aspects of your work. The Counsellor reports directly to the Youth Project Manager.
Key responsibilities include:
· Provide evidence-based, trauma- and violence-informed counselling services to a diverse range of clients, including individuals, couples, children, youth, and families
· Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify client strengths, needs, and goals, and collaboratively develop individualized service plans
· Contribute to program development by designing and facilitating workshops, group programming, and therapeutic interventions
· Build strong connections within the community by maintaining knowledge of agency programs and local resources, and promoting services through both in-person outreach and digital platforms
· Represent the agency on community committees and working groups, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support shared initiatives and meaningful community impact
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including case notes, reports, and evaluations, in accordance with agency policies and professional standards
· Participate in regular clinical supervision and consult with the Youth Project Manager as needed to support best practices and client care
Support the supervision and mentorship of colleagues, students and selected cases as assigned
Work flexible hours outside of regular operating hours, including evenings and/or weekends
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in social work or Indigenous social work
· Minimum of three (3) years of supervised clinical experience in a counselling-related field
· Be eligible for registration with and maintain good standing in a relevant professional association.
· Certification in Play Therapy is considered an asset
· Critical Incident Debriefing training is considered an asset
Areas of Knowledge:
We are looking for someone who brings both professional expertise and a genuine commitment to supporting diverse communities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
· Strong knowledge of counselling theories and practices, including assessment and intervention techniques
· Understanding of human development, behaviour, and change (Family Systems Theory)
· Experience applying trauma- and violence-informed approaches in practice
· Ability to assess and respond to clients at risk, including conducting suicide risk assessments and making appropriate referrals
· Experience supporting children and youth using evidence-based mental health and behavioural interventions
· Ability to navigate consent with children, youth, and their caregivers
· Strong ability to recognize signs of mental health concerns and connect individuals with appropriate supports
· Ability to navigate complex and sensitive situations with empathy, sound judgment, and professionalism
· Experience working effectively within diverse and cross-cultural environments
· Cultural humility and sensitivity when working with Indigenous, immigrant, refugee, newcomer and 2SLGBTQI+ communities
· Experience facilitating group programming and a solid understanding of group dynamics
· Excellent organizational, time management, and caseload management skills
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethical standards
· A commitment to lifelong learning and ongoing professional development
· Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle
Final candidates are required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check including a vulnerable sector search. This position is in-scope, CUPE Local 5316.
Compensation:
Pay range of $4,957.25 to $5,471.88 per month based on bachelor’s degree and related experience.
