POSITION OVERVIEW: The Strong Roots Youth and Family Resilience Program Support Worker is a 12-month temporary position, with the possibility of an extension. Under the guidance of the Program Coordinator, the Support Worker is responsible for assisting in the planning, implementation, and oversight of programming dedicated to the youth and families of Driftpile Cree Nation.
This role focuses on fostering resilience by addressing the ongoing impacts of the Indian Residential School system through a foundation of education, culture, and healing. Together, the Coordinator and Support Worker will cultivate safe, supportive environments where youth can explore Cree identity, intergenerational strength, and historical awareness.
Through the delivery of educational workshops, cultural activities, and land-based learning, the Support Worker helps participants develop essential life skills, strengthen their cultural roots, and build the confidence necessary for success in education, employment, and healthy relationships. This position requires close collaboration with families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Survivors, and various community departments to ensure all programming remains trauma-informed and deeply rooted in Cree values and community priorities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Holistic Youth Development: Plan and deliver programming focused on Cree identity, mental health, and leadership. This includes teaching essential life skills like budgeting, meal planning, and organization, while supporting youth in setting education and employment goals.

Cultural & Land-Based Learning: Facilitate workshops and circles regarding the history of residential schools and intergenerational trauma. You will coordinate land-based activities and seasonal teachings within Driftpile traditional territory, ensuring the respectful inclusion of Cree language, songs, and protocols.

Family & Community Healing: Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Survivors to bridge generational gaps. You will organize family engagement nights and story circles to encourage healthy communication and community resilience.

Advocacy & Leadership: Lead a Youth Advisory Group to ensure the program remains youth-focused and inclusive. You will provide direct mentorship and guidance to help participants build confidence and pride in their heritage.

Strategic Collaboration & Admin: Work across departments (Social Development, Health, Education, and CFS) to coordinate referrals and resources. You will also manage participant records, track attendance, and prepare reports for leadership and funding partners.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education & Experience: A Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Child and Youth Care, or Education is preferred. We highly value a combination of formal education, deep cultural knowledge, and experience working with Indigenous families.

Knowledge & Skills: A strong understanding of Cree traditions and trauma-informed, culturally safe approaches. You must be an organized facilitator capable of working independently and collaboratively.

A valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation are required. Candidates must provide a clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check. First Aid/CPR certification is required (or a willingness to obtain).

Working Conditions: This role involves a mix of office-based admin and outdoor land-based activities. A flexible schedule is required to accommodate occasional evening and weekend community events.
