About the Role
McKay Sheet Metal & Roofing — a GAF Master Elite Contractor established in 1973 — is hiring a Junior Estimator with a direct, defined path to Senior Estimator. Our current estimator retires December 31, 2026. This is a structured handoff, not a vague promise.
You’ll be mentored through the full estimating process covering residential and commercial roofing across the Ottawa Valley, taking on increasing ownership as you grow.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare residential asphalt and steel roofing quotes
- Prepare commercial and residential flat roofing quotes
- Prepare accurate estimates covering materials, labour, waste, disposal, and margin
- Build and deliver proposals using AccuLynx and Plan Swift
- Follow up on outstanding proposals and manage your pipeline
- Hand off confirmed jobs to operations with complete documentation
- Respond to commercial RFPs and tenders in coordination with management
- Conduct site visits and roof assessments (∼10–15% of the role)
- This role is approximately 85–90% office-based at our Lanark location

- AccuLynx – CRM, estimating, and proposal management
- Plan Swift – digital takeoff and estimating
- Hover – aerial roof measurement and 3D modeling
- EagleView, GAF QuickMeasure, RoofScope – roof measurement
- Microsoft Excel, Word, and Office Suite
- Google Earth, Dropbox, Gmail, Google Calendar
What We’re Looking For
- Background in roofing, construction, or trades estimating (strongly preferred)
- Experience with digital takeoff tools (Plan Swift, Hover, or similar) is a strong asset
- Strong computer skills — proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and general office software
- Organized and detail-oriented — able to manage multiple open estimates
- Strong communication skills to liaise professionally with clients and suppliers
- Working at Heights certification required — training will be provided
- Must commute daily to 4132 Wolf Grove Road, Lanark, ON
- Must live within 50 km of Lanark, ON — this is NOT a remote position
