We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Family & Estates Lawyer to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of estates and family law, excellent research and writing skills, and the ability to negotiate effectively. This role involves representing clients in estate and family law matters,
To independently lead and run the Family Law and Estate Law department within the firm. The associate will be given full encouragement and support to bring in files as an additional source of revenue. An ideal candidate will bring in an existing book of business - This is preferred but not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and representation on family law and Estate matters.
- Managing probate applications, estate administration, and related client communications.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents and agreements.
- Represent clients in Ontario courts and at mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences.
- Maintain and manage an independent caseload from intake to resolution.
- Conduct legal research and keep up to date on changes in family law legislation and case law.
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, and other professionals.
- Maintain accurate and organized client files.
Qualifications
- Proven experience or strong interest in family and estates law practice
- Minimum 4 years of experience practicing family law and Estate law in Ontario.
- Strong research capabilities to gather relevant legal information swiftly
- Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
